Petrofit Alloys & Engineering LLP is one of the leading buttweld fittings manufacturers in India, supplying high‑quality pipe BW fittings to oil, gas, petrochemical, power, chemical, marine and process industries. From our base in Mumbai we manufacture elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends in stainless steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel and high‑nickel alloys, with sizes and schedules to match international piping codes.
Our buttweld fittings range covers elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends in stainless steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steel, carbon steel, low‑temperature carbon steel and nickel‑based alloys. Materials are produced to international standards such as ASTM, ASME, EN and DIN, and supplied with complete material traceability and test documentation.
Engineers looking for specific grades can check the product pages for ASTM A403 SS304 / SS304L / SS304H buttweld pipe fittings, ASTM A403 SS316 / SS316L / SS316H buttweld pipe fittings, and many more for detailed technical information.
Buttweld fittings provide a welded connection between pipes and equipment, creating smooth, streamlined flow paths and strong structural joints. Unlike threaded or socketweld fittings, buttweld elbows, tees and reducers are designed for permanent installation in medium‑ and large‑diameter process lines.
At Petrofit, buttweld fittings are manufactured from seamless or welded pipe and plate. Dimensions generally conform to ASME B16.9, MSS‑SP‑43, MSS‑SP‑75 and equivalent international standards. Typical size coverage extends from ½" NB to 48" NB, with wall thicknesses from SCH 10/SCH 10S up to SCH XXS and heavier special‑order thicknesses.
Our role as a buttweld fittings supplier is to offer a full mix of materials so that project owners can standardise on a single source. For example, a refinery turnaround may require stainless steel elbows in ASTM A403 SS304 / SS304L / SS304H buttweld pipe fittings, molybdenum‑bearing tees in ASTM A403 SS316 / SS316L / SS316H buttweld pipe fittings and carbon steel reducers in ASTM A234 WPB buttweld pipe fittings under the same purchase order, with unified inspection and documentation.
300 Series Austenitic Stainless Steels
Austenitic stainless steels are the most widely used material family for buttweld fittings due to their combination of corrosion resistance, formability and weldability.
The standard 18‑8 grade is covered by ASTM A403 SS304 / SS304L / SS304H buttweld pipe fittings, which are used extensively in general process lines, water treatment systems, structural spools and food and beverage plants. The 304L variant with low carbon content is used where extensive welding is required, while 304H is selected for higher‑temperature services.
Where chloride content or process media are more aggressive, fabricators and plant owners commonly move to ASTM A403 SS316 / SS316L / SS316H buttweld pipe fittings. These fittings contain molybdenum for better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making them suitable for chemical processing equipment, offshore platforms, desalination units and pharmaceutical plants.
For high‑temperature service such as furnace headers, reformer manifolds and heat‑treatment lines, ASTM A403 SS310 / SS310S buttweld pipe fittings are often specified. Their higher chromium and nickel content provides improved oxidation resistance and scaling resistance at elevated temperatures compared to standard 304 and 316 grades.
Some applications involve strong acids or very high chloride concentrations. In such environments, higher‑alloy stainless steels are used.
Petrofit supplies ASTM A403 WP 904L buttweld pipe fittings, a high‑alloy austenitic stainless steel grade developed for strong resistance to sulphuric acid and chloride pitting. 904L elbows, tees and reducers are found in fertilizer plants, flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) units, pollution control systems and seawater‑cooled heat exchangers.
For even more severe conditions, especially warm seawater and chloride‑rich process streams, SMO254 buttweld pipe fittings (a 6Mo super austenitic stainless steel) are selected. SMO 254 fittings offer a very high pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) and are widely used in desalination plants, seawater intake lines and pulp and paper bleach plants.
Where high strength and resistance to chloride stress‑corrosion cracking are required, duplex and super duplex stainless steels are used.
ASTM A182 F51 buttweld pipe fittings correspond to duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 / S32205 (commonly called Duplex 2205). These fittings are applied in seawater cooling systems, firewater lines, offshore production facilities and chemical processing units where both mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are important.
For even more aggressive service, such as subsea manifolds, injection lines and critical offshore structures, ASTM A182 F53 buttweld pipe fittings in super duplex stainless steel UNS S32750 are selected. Super duplex fittings provide higher strength and better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in warm seawater and sour service conditions.
Duplex and super duplex buttweld fittings supplied by Petrofit are subjected to controlled heat treatment and ferrite balance checks and can be provided with corrosion testing to project‑specific requirements.
Not every system requires stainless or nickel alloy materials. For steam lines, process piping and pipelines carrying non‑corrosive or mildly corrosive fluids, carbon and low‑temperature carbon steels remain essential.
ASTM A234 WPB buttweld pipe fittings are the workhorse carbon steel fittings used in refineries, petrochemical plants, power stations and cross‑country pipelines. These fittings are typically used for moderate and high‑temperature services in carbon steel piping systems and can be supplied normalised or stress‑relieved according to code requirements.
For cryogenic and low‑temperature service, such as LNG terminals, cold storage facilities and low‑temperature process units, ASTM A420 WPL6 buttweld pipe fittings are specified. WPL6 fittings undergo impact testing at low temperature to demonstrate adequate toughness, and test data are included on the mill test certificates provided with each batch.
Together, ASTM A234 WPB buttweld pipe fittings and ASTM A420 WPL6 buttweld pipe fittings cover a large proportion of carbon steel piping requirements in process and power industries.
Certain services present such severe corrosion conditions that stainless steels and duplex grades are not sufficient. In these cases, nickel‑based alloys are deployed to ensure reliable long‑term performance.
In seawater, sour gas and high‑temperature exhaust environments where strength and corrosion resistance must be combined, ASTM B366 UNS N06625 buttweld pipe fittings (Inconel 625) is a common choice. These fittings are widely used in offshore topsides and subsea equipment, flue gas desulphurisation units and high‑temperature ducting.
For mixed acid environments and chemical plants handling sulphuric and phosphoric acids, ASTM B366 UNS N08825 buttweld pipe fittings (Incoloy 825) is frequently selected. Incoloy 825 fittings provide a good balance of corrosion resistance in both oxidising and reducing media.
Where process conditions are extremely aggressive or poorly defined, ASTM B366 UNS N10276 buttweld pipe fittings in Hastelloy C‑276 is often specified. This nickel‑molybdenum‑chromium alloy has broad resistance to a wide range of corrosive chemicals. In applications where optimised resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is required, particularly in chloride‑rich and mixed media, ASTM B366 UNS N06022 buttweld pipe fittings in Hastelloy C‑22 can be used.
These nickel alloy buttweld fittings are commonly installed in chemical reactors, scrubber systems, waste treatment plants, pollution‑control equipment and other critical process areas where failure would be highly costly.
